Banée The South Okanagan’s Secret Wine Festival

By / Magazine / April 8th, 2009 / 1

Heed the call of your inner winemaker, sommelier, vineyard manager or wine critic – if only for the weekend. Come to the South Okanagan’s secret wine festival, Banée.

Gearing up for its sixth year, the festival is modeled after Burgundy’s Banée de Meursault and is a wine industry celebration that marks the end of pruning and the beginning of a new season. The Okanagan’s Banée was originally a small gathering of South Okanagan winery owners and winemakers enjoying a wine-focused, no-frills forum to taste local and international wines, exchange ideas and share meals.

The general public’s growing fascination with all things food and wine has created demand for a public event. As a result, Banée is presenting The Corkscrew Saloon at the Oliver Community Centre on the evening of Friday, April 17. This event takes us back to the basics where wine is the hero and your favourite vintners will be on hand to talk shop.

There are also a very limited number of packages available for some closed events on April 17 and 18 – winemaker’s tastings, tours, lunches and dinners, as well as Saturday night’s Banée celebration.

This is the time for wine lovers to head to the South Okanagan – the 19 wineries of this area are opening their doors for the season which means you’ll have the first chance to taste and buy new spring releases.

Tickets to The Corkscrew Saloon at the Oliver Community Centre can be purchased through Bonnie Dancy at the South Okanagan Chamber at 250.498.6321.
