Bring Spring Inside

By / Food / May 20th, 2014 / 1

We’ve had spring-like weather since mid-April, but it’s only this weekend that I’ve felt it was here to stay. Now that my windows are open and my house is clean, I want to fill my house with all the wonderful sights of spring.

Entry

One of the darkest places in my apartment, a nice bouquet of spring flowers, a new mirror to reflect the light and, for fun, a peel and stick decal of a tree or flower in a bright colour are the best way to brighten the space.

Living Room

Carved, ready-made ceiling rosettes make impressive wall art, especially when painted in different shades of yellow. Yellow throw pillows in solid or patterned fabric pull the room together, especially with cream or pale yellow curtains.

Hallway

The second-darkest space in my apartment, brighten this space with a new coat of paint. I used pale yellow, but you can try any bright colour found in nature.

Kitchen

Fruit and flowers make a unique and edible center piece in your kitchen. Try Kumquats in a vase of water with yellow tulips or a tray of Granny Smith apples surrounded by flower petals or blossoms.

Bathroom

Decorating an apartment bathroom can be difficult, but a simple ruffled bird’s-nest frond bouquet makes a striking statement. Pack in a low, footed vase and set it on the back of your toilet.

Bedroom

Find a light throw blanket with a funky or floral pastel print and fold it over the foot of your bed. Frame patterned fabric swatches and hang them over your bed. If you’re on a budget, try wrapping paper or a cut out from a gift bag.

Office

Organize with white porcelain egg cups – they’re the perfect size for paper clips, push pins, candies or cut flowers.
