Top 5 Canadian Food Blogs

By / Food / June 18th, 2013 / 35

No doubt, it hasn’t escaped your attention that there sure are a whole lot of food blogs out there, including of course my very own Chaos and Canapés right here within the “pages” of Quench. How many have you taken the trouble to visit and peruse some of those food blogs? I like to take some time on Mondays to reach out, investigate, rekindle old friendships and start new ones. Food blogs are a constant source of great recipe ideas, of course. But, what I like most is that they provide a perfect vehicle by which we can stay easily connected to people whose interests are more or less similar to our own, and maybe even learn some things we wouldn’t have otherwise.

I created this list of top 5 Canadian food blogs as a way to organize my favourites and to provide a starting point for discussion. I actually have many more than five favourites, and will be featuring them over the coming weeks. I’m sure you have your own favourites. Who have I missed? Let me know. I promise I’ll definitely check them out, and maybe you’ll see them on my next list of the top 10. After all, what better way to discover great blogs and support each other?!

Alexandra Leonora’s Kitchen

I love the way Alexandra pulls from her memories of her mamma’s cooking. Tradition is at the root of who we are whether we choose to indulge in that history or transform it completely. This blog takes the best of both worlds. In fact, it’s hard to look further than Aunt Rachael’s Bruschetta.

A Canadian Foodie

I had the great pleasure of meeting Valerie while in Edmonton last year. I happened to be there during the Slow Food International get-together, a Valerie played a central role in organizing the happy event. Valerie’s long experience shines through on her blog. She provides abundant cooking advice and tasty recipes, like Homemade Buttermilk Blue Cheese.

The Goodie Girl

The Goodie Girl offers a fresh take on all the food she espies, especially desserts! I found her recipes to be very accessible, especially the no bake Jumping Peanut Squares.

Life Without Lemons

This London, England ex-pat now calls Edmonton her home. Right away, I was drawn to her easy humour and down-to-earth style, and her claim that “yellow food can make you happy- it’s just a happy colour!” I like this, too: Polenta Bread.

Mindfully Spiced

Tradition is great, but most of us don’t have access to traditional cooking skills. So, reproducing those old dishes is nearly impossible. Tradition is never static anyway. That’s what really drew me to Ginni’s blog. She just has a way of refreshing the old so that it retains its glory, but with a modern kick, like Chicken Meatloaf .

Now, I turn it over to you. Go check them out, come back and let me know who else you’ve discovered.
