What to Drink with your Yard Work
It’s the weekend. For myself and my fellow homeowners, this usually means (at least some) yard work and thankfully, some much needed down time from the “all-engines-fired” weekday routine.
So, I thought, why not have a little fun and pair those outdoor chores with a few favourite libations.
Happy Friday!
Mowing the lawn
Yes, I know – this is not an easy task without a ride-on. And, if it is a particularly warm evening (please, please do not cut your grass midday!) the task will feel slightly more daunting. So, I’m sticking with the tried and true…an ice cold Mexican brew, lime and all. Judge me…I care not.
Trimming (arghh)
Did you notice the ARGHH!? I hate the tedious task of trimming. I’ve heard that some folk take pleasure in this activity. I will not pretend to understand them. Instead, I will treat myself to a big, Frozen Rum Runner in an attempt to ease my pain.
Planting flowers
Now, this is something I truly enjoy doing. I think it’s the hands-in-the-earth feeling of connecting with nature combined with all the beautiful scents and colours. I like to match this sensory experience with an equally enjoyable one – drinking a glass of one of my favourite wines (any red Saint-Joseph from France’s Rhone Valley).
Tending to the vegetable garden
An equally pleasant experience, perhaps even more so, as the fruits (or vegetables, in this case) of my labour help feed my family. There is no better drink match, for this activity, than a fragrant, Gin based, cucumber-basil martini.
