Organizing for Small Bathrooms

By / Food / January 2nd, 2014 / 2

Apartment bathrooms always seem to be an afterthought – small, with just the medicine cabinet for storage. It can be difficult to transform this tiny space into an inviting place for morning prep or a relaxing bath – but with the right tools, it can be done.

Shelving

Every bathroom, no matter how small, has a least a little bit of wall space. There are two types of shelving units to look for – floating shelves or an “over the toilet” cabinet. Both come in different sizes, shapes and designs, so you can find one that fits your personality and budget.

Really open up your space

Install mirrors around your floating shelves or in the back of your cabinet to give the illusion of more space.

Baskets and Boxes

Once you have the storage unit of choice, you need to organize all of your toiletries and accessories. A great set of baskets, whether they are woven, cloth or just plain old shoe boxes or paint cans repurposed for your bathroom, can work wonders for organizing your space.

Add a bit of spunk

If you don’t want to paint your bathroom, add colour to your space with an eclectic set of vintage boxes. The best part is that the set doesn’t have to match!

Under the Sink

Invest in some small baskets or bins (preferably in the style of the ones used on your shelves) and store toilet paper, cleaning products and your garbage under the sink. Keeping the open concept here is necessary to retain the illusion of space.

In the Shower

There are some great organizers for an affordable price at stores like Ikea – invest in one to get your toiletries off the bathroom ledge and keep your tiles clean.
