Online Interior Design Inspiration
Not everyone has the benefit of interior design know-how. So where do you go if you have picture of your room, but no idea how to transform that into a real life? The internet, that’s where.
Here are a few of my favourite websites to inspire me when I’m trying to redesign a room:
Houzz.com
A networking site for homeowners, designers and professionals, this is an easy to navigate site that comes complete with tips and troubleshooting from other DIYers.
Desiretoinspire.net
Run by a Canadian and an Australian, these self-proclaimed interior design junkies collect and post their favourite design images from across the internet – essentially, they do all the hard work for you!
Freshome.com
More opulent in their designs than the previous two websites, Freshome is full of unique designs, furniture and colour combinations. It’s easy to browse – the rooms – are listed in the top menu. Warning: not for someone operating on a tiny budget.
Cococozy.com
Managed by the Coco, whose alter ego is an executive by day, this blog-slash-magazine features fresh designs with texture and pattern. Search by room or by Cococozy’s “Special Features” and enjoy the images.
Apartmenttherapy.com
This is a community that inspires each other to create beautiful homes. Most of the decor featured has been created by people like you and I – which, in itself, is very inspiring.
Furniture & Home Websites
Websites for Furniture and Home Decor stores are great for that little something your home is missing – after all, that’s their specialty. The staged rooms are produced by a professional, so you know the layout and colour combinations are sound from a design perspective. My favourites are: ikea.com (though their catalogue is better); designwithinreach.com; fashion4home.de (the site is in German).
