4 Must-Have All-Natural Cleaning Products

By / Food / February 27th, 2015 / 3

Cleaning products are great for getting rid of dirt, mold and so forth, but they can be toxic to your skin, eyes and sinuses. All-natural, homemade cleaning products are eco-friendly and better for your health.

Vinegar

Use on toilet bowl rings, soup scum, hard water stains, stove and counter tops, floors and as fabric softener
Long has vinegar been the household item touted as a powerful all-purpose cleaner, disinfectant and deodorizer. Mix equal parts water and vinegar in a spray bottle and use as you would any all-purpose cleaner. Just a warning: don’t use on marble and use caution with tile grout; the acid can erode them.

Don’t like the smell? Infuse it with your favourite herbal scent.

Black Tea

Use on windows and hardwood floors
Tea is a great pick-me-up in the morning, but it’s also a great pick-me-up for windows and floors. Brew a strong pot, pour a mug for yourself, then spray on windows or use to mop up the floors for shiny, beautiful surfaces.

Baking Soda

Use on baking pans, clogged drains and as a deodorizer
Baking soda, especially when mixed with other household items, is a cleaner and deodorizer. Alone, it absorbs odors from the air – leave an open box in the refrigerator to trap smells. Mix with peroxide to make a paste to spread on baking pans that have caked on crumbs; leave it for a couple of hours then wipe clean.

Citrus Juice

Use on tubs, soap scum, hard water deposits, dishes and as a bleach
Citrus juice contains citric acid, which eats away at soap scum, hard water and grime. Cut a lemon or grapefruit in half, sprinkle with salt and squeeze over the tub. Wipe away for a clean surface. Or sprinkle the halves with baking soda and use to clean dishes.
