Matching your Spring Meal with the Perfect Wine

By / Food / May 25th, 2015 / 3

With spring in full swing, fresh produce is readily available and affordable. Our tables are graced with bright green asparagus, scrumptious strawberries and peppery arugula. Here are two of our favorite seasonal sides and suggested wine matches. Bon appetit and happy spring!

Grilled Balsamic Asparagus

Quench’s wine match: Sauvignon Blanc, without a doubt. But, not just any Sauvignon Blanc. Both the asparagus and the balsamic dressing need a wine with enough fresh acidity to stand up to their strong flavours. Minerally and herbaceous Sauvignon Blancs work best. Try one from New Zealand or a Pouilly-Fume from France’s Loire Valley.

Strawberry Arugula Salad

Quench’s wine match: Go with some bubbles, here. The strawberries and sweet dressing will pair well with a slightly sweet Prosecco from Italy or you could try matching the bitter flavours of the arugula with a dryer version. Sweeter Proseccos will be labelled ‘dry’ and those with the least amount of residual sugar will be labelled ‘brut’.
