Most Expensive Hot Dog in the World
How big a hot dog lover are you? Would you fork over $100 for this gourmet foot long?
I just found out that dougieDog Hot Dogs, a Vancouver eatery that creates all-natural hot dogs, has invented something called the Dragon Dog. It costs $100. What makes it worth it? Ok, never having tasted one, I can’t tell you if it’s worth the price, but I can reveal some of the special ingredients. First, the meat is infused with hundred-year-old Louis XIII cognac ($1 for each year?), which costs over $2000 a bottle. Second, (if the meat in the hot dog isn’t enough for you) Kobe beef seared in olive and truffle oil is added to the bun along with fresh lobster. The whole thing is topped with a picante sauce (ingredients undisclosed). Yes, it is spectacularly decadent. But, is it worth it? I’m not so sure the taste of the cognac would be noticeable under all of those other flavours. Let me know if you’ve tried it.
dougieDOG proprietor and Chief HotDog Designer Dougie Luv had this to say about it: “In designing this hot dog I wanted to come up with something super tasty and high-end that stays true to the traditional identity of the hot dog — a hot dog that any hot dog lover would enjoy.”
The name, Dragon Dog, comes from the fact that its creation coincided with the Chinese Year of the Dragon. It also coincided with Dougie Luv’s upcoming appearance on the show, Dragon’s Den. Maybe it’s an homage to the picante sauce, too?
In any case, it is now the most expensive hot dog in the world. The current Guinness record holder the “haute dog” at Serendipity restaurant in New York which costs $69.
