Busy weekend = meals made easy

By / Food / September 25th, 2015 / 10

I’m a hockey mom. A single, have-3-boys, work full time, hockey mom. This coming weekend is a big travel weekend for my family, with two away games. I’m ready for 8 hours of driving. The distractions are packed; snacks and quick, healthy meals are all ready to go. But, it is the weekend and I’d like to come home to a hearty, home-cooked meal (and a glass of wine!). Is that too much to ask?

Enter the slow cooker. Browsing our Quench archives, I found a few incredible recipes, including an old-fashioned chili from our food editor, Nancy Johnson. That’s what’s being prepared tonight in my kitchen, for dinner tomorrow night. As a non red meat eating family, I will substitute the sirloin for turkey. I will, however, indulge in a glass – or two – of the suggested South African Shiraz.

Check out all of Nancy’s slow cooker recipes and wine suggestions, here.
