Are You Food Stressed?

Where do you place on the Food Stress Index? Wait. Did you say you’ve never even heard of it before? Right now, you’re thinking that the last thing you need is something adding stress to your life. What does food have to do with stress? Come on, say it out loud: sometimes I eat when I’m stressed. There, doesn’t that feel better? Actually, though, the Food Stress Index isn’t about that at all. So why did we just go through that exercise? Just because. Now, don’t argue.

The Food Stress Index measures how much we consumers listen to what the media tells about the food we eat. So, when headlines purporting the antioxidant powers of pomegranate are splashed across the front pages of every magazine, do you stock up on pomegranates. Of course you do! About 83% of us have modified our eating habits since 2004. Think for a minute of the power behind your buying decisions. In the last seven years, new products have appeared on the market that contain no trans fats and low salt levels. More products are also now touting the inclusion of omega-3s and probiotics.

Overall, I have to say that the results of this survey indicate a really positive change. It’s about time that we, the consumers, use our buying power to change the food we eat for the better.
