6 Eccentric Frames

By / Food / August 27th, 2013 / 1

A while back, I discovered the correct way to use a frame. But I’ve got my eye on some vintage frames that scream to be used eccentrically. Here are six ways I could do that:

Floating Bookshelf

Fancy frames are pieces of art, so instead of distracting from the frame, highlight it by hanging a floating bookshelf in the center. If the frame is thick (about 10”), you could even make it the bookshelf.

Go Glassless

If you share my craftiness, this option is for you. Spice up the frames with hanging wire, branches and silhouettes to make an earthy diorama.

Sometimes it IS all Black and White

Recycle your grandmother’s doilies by displaying them in solid black frames (make sure the back of the frame is black too!) The contrast between colours and styles are sophisticated and modern.

Invisible Pictures

Hanging an empty frame on the wall, especially if the wall is exposed brick, can be the most dramatic thing you do… and the most confusing. If you venture into the land of invisible pictures, be prepared for puzzled questions from your guests.

Be Practical

Convert the antique frame into a note board for the family. Replace the back with corkboard and hang in a prominent place in your home. It’ll be a much more attractive alternative to the fridge.

Reflect Beauty

Create tiny pin pricks of reflection by exchanging the glass for mirrors in smaller vintage frames and hanging them along one wall. It will add another dimension of beauty to your home.

Now, I just need to decide which of these six I’m going to use…
