With Labour Day falling on September 2nd this year, the holiday presents a great opportunity for travellers who want to have one last getaway before the end of summer. What’s also great about the weekend is the quality of the weather. For instance, in the top-booked destination of Toronto, up three spots from last year, September offers a perfect balance between summer heat and winter chill, offering visitors a cool, comfortable climate. Up five spots to second on the list of most popular destinations is Ottawa, Ontario. The country’s capital and home to some unforgettable outdoor scenery. Ottawa has been offering low prices compared to other Canadian destinations, which has increased the city’s popularity and has led to deeply discounted hotel stays. This Labour Day Weekend, visitors to Ottawa can check outthe sprawling Estate of former Canadian Prime Minister Mackenzie King, where the picturesque landscapes will be accompanied with guided tours and family events planned specifically for the long weekend.

Meanwhile, the always-popular U.S. destination and number three on the list is New York City. As the only American city in this year’s top five, New York is an ideal location for a quick getaway, offering famous stops like Times Square and Central Park in addition to museums like the Guggenheim and the Museum of Modern Art, both of which are open for the holiday. Visitors looking to spend their Labour Day in a city known for its outdoor activities should consider Vancouver, last year’s most-booked destination and this year’s fourth-place offering. With Labour Day happening in early September this year, it’s the perfect time to catch the tail end of Vancouver’s summer “Celebration Season,”where the entire city turns into a big outdoor festival. In addition to catching food trucks and live acts, visitors can also visit the Fair at the Pacific National Exhibition, which features performances, exhibits, food and even rides for visitors of all ages.

Fifth on the list of top-booked Labour Day destinations is Montreal, a city whose peak travel season is in the summer months from May to August. As festival season winds down, Montreal’s hotels are seeing fewer travelers as we move into the fall, meaning that Labour Day visitors will get comfortable weather and the steep discounts of the early off-season. Rounding out the list are Boston, Halifax, Chicago, Victoria and Calgary, all of which follow the Labour Day trend of large Canadian cities and popular U.S. destinations offering steep discounts.
