#WineWednesday: The Wonderful World of Melchor
Since the Labour Day has come and gone there seems to be two things on people’s minds: Thanksgiving and Christmas. With the coming of those two holidays we all start thinking of gift giving and, for those who are hosting dinners, what will I be serving to impress family and friends.
Recently, I got a chance to sit in on an eight vintage tasting of ‘the Don’ … Concha y Toro’s Don Melchor, Chile’s premium single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon – and I can say without a shadow of a doubt, it you’re looking to give a gift of wine to impress or to impress those sitting at your table, these wines will do the trick, and they age so well.
2008 Don Melchor ($79.95)
Red licorice, raspberry and chocolate aromas lure you in; you’ll find soft and silky tannins on the palate with plenty of dark fruit and a long pleasing finish; good acidity keeps it fresh.
2007 Don Melchor ($79.95)
Aromas of cherry, raspberry and chocolate are followed with a fruit driven palate that show mineral as well as good acidity; big tannins with plenty of concentrated fruit that coats the mouth.
2003 Don Melchor ($120.00)
Black cherry and mint on the nose, smooth and sexy on the palate with robust dark fruit and hints of mineral, mint and smoke. Finish is surprisingly fresh for its age.
