#WineWednesday: Wines for the Holidays – Champagne

By / Wine + Drinks / December 4th, 2013 / 1

Happy December, the month of celebration and holidays.  The month we all look forward to.  It’s a time to re-connect with friends and family.  A time to pull out the bubbly and make a toast for a happy next year while enjoying the time we are together now.

I know that bubbly is not just for the holidays – and you should too – but there’s just something about this time of year that screams “celebration”.

For those extra-special occasions I give you a list of Champagne (real Champagne, from Champagne, France) for when you want to reward nice or inspire the naughty.

Charles Heidsieck NV Brut ($59.95)

Biscuity and toasty with lovely hazelnut/almond biscotti and lemon drop.

Henriot NV Souverain Brut ($59.95)

Mineral and bready aspects lead to apple core and skin with nice acidity to cap the finish – this one starts off seemingly sweet but ends long and dry.

Louis Roederer NV Brut Premier ($68.95)

This one has it all, biscuits, brioche, hazelnut and plenty of baked apple.

Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin 2004 Vintage Rose ($97.95)

Raspberry and citrus on the fore-palate leads to a finish that’s long on strawberry.

Krug Grande Cuvee Brut Champagne ($271.95)

For those with an unlimited budget this is the one you should put on the table, you’ve heard of Krug and it’s for good reason.
