#WineWednesday: Wines for the Holidays – Other Bubblies
One week to go … we’ve hit the middle of the month and in one week jolly old St. Nicholas will be whisking down chimneys everywhere and then one week after that the ball will drop in New York’s Time Square to signify the passing of this year and the beginning of a new one.
Over the past week we’ve looked at Champagne and invested time in bubblies here at home; now it’s time to look at other places where the wine doth sparkle.
So, if you haven’t yet picked out the cork you’ll pop when the ball does drop might I add these bubbles to your list for consideration.
Cono Sur Sparkling Brut ($13.95) – Chile
For value this is a tough one to beat, delicate fruit, great bubbles and flavour that goes that extra mile … also look for the Rosé in this label.
Casal de Gorschs Fresita ($13.95) – Chile
Weird yet wonderful – blending sparkling wine with strawberries makes this a hit in any room and takes this wine into another dimension.
Carpene Malvolti Cuvee Brut Prosecco ($15.95) – Italy
Green apple joins lemon with a hint of fresh bread crust.
Bera 2011 Moscato D’Asti ($13.75) – Italy
Moscato the way it should be – this one crackles with flavour and the acidity balances out the sweetness nicely.
Freixenet Cordon Negro ($13.95) – Spain
Good acidity fronts lemon-lime and toasted almond notes.
Jip Jip Rocks Sparkling Shiraz ($18.65) – Australia
Freak ‘em out with this rather tasty bubbly made from Shiraz; it brings the fruit with just a touch of pepper and it’s red.
