Wines That Are Right for Rain
We had one heck of a rainstorm in southern Ontario last night: house shaking thunder, sky brightening lightning, real heavy downpours …
Which got me thinking about some ‘mom’ advice: “save something for a rainy day” … Now I know she wasn’t talking about wine but there are some great ones to save for just such an occasion.
Banfi 2009 Regali La Lus Albarossa, Italy ($24.95)
This is a sit and drink and watch the rain kinda wine with great black cherry, touch of spice and dark cocoa; easy drinking with a lovely finish.
CedarCreek 2012 Block 3 Riesling, British Columbia ($24.95)
Great minerality with lemon / lime notes and orange zest, citrus is abound here; all brought together by a refreshing tartness from the electric acidity.
Deakin Estate 2013 Shiraz, Australia ($9.95)
There’s a lot going on here for such a little price, chocolate, white pepper, and jammed packed with fruit which packs a boom in the mouth.
