The Weird, The Wacky, The Wonderful

Little known fact: the above alliteration was the working title for the classic Clint Eastwood spaghetti western, but someone suggested The Good the Bad and the Ugly and that seems to fit better, so they dropped the original.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

If you believe that then I have some swampland in Florida I’m also pitching; but what a great name for a wine column with a few fun facts thrown in along the way …

C.G. di Arie Vineyard 2007 Old Vine Zinfandel, California ($25.00)

Grapes for this wine come from 43 year old vines, which means more concentrated fruit in the form of plum and red / black cherry along with vanilla, cola and herbal notes.

Post Scriptum de Chryseia 2011, Portugal ($29.95)

Blending indigenous grapes like Touriga Nacional and Franca with Tinta Roriz and Barroca gives this wine a plummy oaky note rich in blackberry, black cherry and elegant spices.

Norman Hardie 2012 Niagara Chardonnay Unfiltered, Ontario ($39.00)

Nothing weird or wacky about Chardonnay, but this one is wonderful keeping the fruit character intact along with subtle oak notes being present – pure Chardonnay enjoyment in every sip.
