Tasted: Italy’s Whites

Close your eyes and imagine drinking a glass of wine in a piazza in Florence or enjoying a beautifully crafted Italian wine right here at home. Our bet? That glass you’re imagining is filled with red wine…correct?

Most people don’t immediately associate Italy with white wine although the northern regions are capable of producing excellent wines, including Italy’s sparkling masterpiece; Prosecco.

Here are a few choice selections for your drinking enjoyment.  Cent’Anni.

Enticingly aromatic floral scents with yellow and green fruit overtones. Flavours are simultaneously ripe and refreshingly clean with good acidity and an intriguing salty note on the finish.

Review Summary:
Bright pale yellow. Aromatic nose of white fruits, a touch of asparagus and a nice minerality. Fresh attack; balance is on the acidic side with a light body. An intense and persistent fruity taste finishing on a dry minerality. Very nice on a warm day as an aperitif or with white fish.

Golden yellow. Ripe nose of exotic fruits (pineapple, peach), notes of fresh herbs and honey with a mineral undertone (flint). Lively acidity, ripe and nice fruity flavour, good volume and length. Ready to drink and perfect with roasted chicken.

On the nose shows mellow ripe apple and pear with gentle floral and honeyed overtones. Generously ripe grapefruit and apple flavours emerge on the palate with medium weight; agreeably balanced acidity culminating in a crisp clean finish.

Toronto restaurateur Franco Prevedello’s own Prosecco from his hometown vineyard in Asolo. Almost water-white in colour; off-dry with white peach flavours; elegant and refreshing with good length.
