#WineWednesday: Rosé Way of Thinking

By / Wine + Drinks / August 14th, 2013 / 1

I have a friend who drinks nothing but Rosé, I’ve often considered him a sophisticated man with an unsophisticated palate.  We get together every year with another couple (6 of us in total) and I’m in charge of the wine, so every year I have to figure out what Rosé to get so that he’ll at least have a glass in his hand like the rest of us lushes.

This year I took the job more seriously, tired of slipping him bottles of White Zinfandel and other sweet pink wines – I wanted to see the world through his Rosé coloured glasses, which means I tasted plenty of Rosés.  This year, for the first time ever, I actually compiled a top 5 rosé list, and I now see where my buddy is coming from … though I’m not quite sure how he drinks this in the winter – but maybe one day we’ll all come around to his way of thinking.

Here are the top 3 in order …

Chateau des Charmes 2012 Rosé, Cuvee d’Andree ($14.95)

100% Pinot Noir – It’s a red berry number with cherry and raspberry that moves the party seamlessly from glass to the mouth with a nice tang on the finish – this rosé screams.

Lailey 2012 Rosé ($18.00)

Four red grapes bleed their juice into this one. Floral, raspberry and strawberry on the nose and while the palate starts off sweet it’s nicely balanced by a finish that comes off as tart and bitter with elements of spice.

Huff 2012 Rosé ($18.00)

100% Cabernet Franc.  A nose of grapefruit, white pepper and raspberry and a palate that has a lovely peppered raspberry-cherry note all with citrus backing.
