The first long weekend of the warm weather season is upon us. Whether you are planning a weekend away at the cottage, a backyard barbeque or a little hard work in the garden, we are certain that at some point you will have a glass of wine in hand. Here are a few of our Long Weekend Wine suggestions.

J.P. Vinhos Tinto da Anfora 2008

Reviewed by: Tony Aspler

Editor Rating: Very Good

$12

Alentejo, Portugal

Review Summary: Great value here. A blend of Aragonez, Touriga Nacional, Trincadeira, Alfrocheiro and Cabernet Sauvignon vinified in huge clay amphorae. Deep purple colour and a sweet nose of violets and mulberries. Medium bodied, elegant and perfumed with flavours of blackcurrant and spice.

Pondview Cabernet Franc Rosé 2011

Reviewed by: Evan Saviolidis

Editor Rating: Very Good

$15

Niagara River, Canada

Review Summary: A pleasant bouquet of candied strawberry, vanilla, herbs, cocoa and flowers make this an ideal partner for sashimi and sushi. Medium length combined with fresh acidity to round everything out.

Pesquié Viognier 2011

Reviewed by: Gilles Bois

Editor Rating: Very Good

$19

IGP Méditerranée

Review Summary: Pale yellow. Sharp nose of citrus with hints of tropical fruits (mostly pineapple). Clean taste; balance is slightly on the acidic side but with a nice roundness and weight in the middle palate, sign of a quality Viognier. It finishes neatly, so don’t wait to enjoy a glass.

Etude Chardonnay 2009

Reviewed by: Gurvinder Bhatia

Editor Rating: Excellent

$45

Carneros, California

Review Summary: Wonderfully fresh, with great minerality and touch of acidity; bright apple, citrus, touch of spice; great mouthfeel. A fantastic example of a California Chardonnay that is rich and still fresh. No new oak, and no malo. I keep thinking oysters and shellfish.
