Let’s Think Warm Thoughts
We’re less than a week away from March, and it can’t come soon enough for my liking (and I am sure yours) – but then again I put no faith in the weather warming up in March. Growing up I had a friend who called March a female dog (what he really said rhymes with “witch”) because it always dumps one more good storm on us , especially when you least expect it.
But it’s always good to look ahead at what is to come and Spring will soon be here, which means warmer temps, thus simpler wines will be on the menu – it’s not Rosé time quite yet, but it is nice to look at some nice light whites you might want to have on hand come the warmer weather.
Balestri Valda 2012 Soave Classico (Italy) – $15.95
Apple melon and honey kick off the nose, palate is light and summery with lots of lovely citrus notes.
William Fevre 2011 Chablis (France) – $24.95
White and yellow fruit driven with apples and pears along with touches of lemon-citrus.
Pecan Stream 2012 Chenin Blanc (South Africa) – $14.95
Lanolin and grapefruit rind dance across the tongue then there’s the acidity to offer up balance.
Domane Wachau 2012 Terraces Gruner Veltliner (Austria) – $17.95
Gruner is a delightful warm weather wine, this one is pea pod, grassy and grapefruit pith oriented.
