Hard Not to Think of BC

By / Wine + Drinks / November 19th, 2014 / 3

I was reminded this summer of my recent trip to British Columbia …

Now I still say “recent”, but time seems to be moving so quickly, a check of my notes shows that it has been 6 years (where does the time go?); but each time I sip on something from Canada’s west coast I am reminded of those 10 days in August when we visited too many wineries, sipped too many wines and just enjoyed ourselves immensely.

Going back is on the “Things to Do” list, but until then it’s nice to know that remembering B.C.’s wine country is merely a sip away.

Burrowing Owl 2012 Chardonnay ($33.95)

Chardonnay, in my opinion, should show more fruit than wood, and this Burrowing Owl version does just that:  peach, pear, apricot with a touch of almond and a lovely creaminess.

Osoyoos Larose 2009 Le Grand Vin ($44.95)

Nose lures, palate intrigues; all the while you just want to keep on sipping.  Great fruit, structure and balance; one of the better Le Grand Vin in this winery’s 10 vintage history.

Mission Hill 2010 Compendium ($39.95)

A two vineyard selection aged 13 months in new French oak giving this spectacular red sweet black cherry, vanilla, cocoa, hints of smoke and a creamy smoothness worth your time and effort, while it provides maximum enjoyment.
