Giving Thanks to the US of A

By / Wine + Drinks / November 26th, 2014 / 2

Well tomorrow is Thanksgiving in the US of A, and, as we all know, the official gateway to Christmas is kicked open the next day with the Black Friday sales starting as early as midnight.

To honour the occasion of Turkey Day down south I give you the official wine of Turkey Day, Pinot Noir – all of which come from the good ol’ US of A.

Fess Parker 2010 Pinot Noir, California ($33.95)

Gentle and easy with a good mix of red and black fruit backed by notes of smoke and spice which seem to hang around on the pleasant finish.

Belle Glos 2012 Las Alturas Vineyard Pinot Noir, California ($44.95)

Many purists find this Pinot Noir over the top, a Pinot Noir meets Zinfandel love-child, but for those who like big, rich and fruit forward wines with black cherry and plum this will be right up your alley.

Plowbuster 2012 Pinot Noir, Oregon ($25.95)

Oregon seems to have nailed the in-between of California’s rich fruited Pinots and Burgundy’s delicacy to make Pinots all their own; this one is pretty with vanilla, dusky cherry and hints of spiced plum.
