#FridayCocktail: Black Berry Cabernet Caipirnha

By / Wine + Drinks / July 12th, 2013 / 1

This summer cocktail is sure to please anyone with a sweet tooth. This combination of authentic Sangria and Caipirnha mixed with some west coast favorites will knock the socks (or sandals) off your next cocktail party. The first step to making this cocktail will be going to the store, luckily we are using common ingredients found at almost any food chain and liquor store.

Shopping: Heading down the first aisle you will need to pick up some Cachaca (sugarcane spirit, at least 6 ounces) and an affordable Cabernet Sauvignon (2 ounces). That’s all the liquor we will need for this drink, let’s go get some fresh ingredients.  Many of these ingredients can also be found at local farmers markets, a great way to show support for local farmers and businesses. You will need to find 1 cup of blackberries, 2 medium limes, 1.5 ounces lime juice (3 freshly squeezed limes), 2 ounces orange juice (1 freshly squeezed orange), 4 ounces of simple syrup, 2 ounces of cranberry juice, ice. My lips are salivating just writing this! Now, if your guests don’t have a sweet tooth you may want to hold off on this new drink until next time because it can be sweet.

Preparation: Make sure to wash all fresh fruit before mixing them together. Find a large pitcher and add the blackberries and lime slices. Now, muddle these ingredients together. For those who are unfamiliar this is using a wooden or plastic “bat” to crush and mix dry ingredients before adding any liquids. Also, if your friends are watching this bit of knowledge will surely impress them and help you gain some credibility. Now, add the liquor to your pitcher. 6 ounces of Cachaca and 2 ounces of Cabernet Sauvignon should do the trick, but use discretion and add more or less depending on the circumstances. Once the liquor has been added add the juice from 3 fresh limes, 1 fresh orange,  our 4 ounces of simple syrup, 2 ounces of cranberry juice and ice. Chill the pitcher of delicious cocktail until cold in the refrigerator. You can also add fresh shavings from our orange or lime peels for some added zing.

Serving: Nothing special here, time to pour! Make sure to use a pitcher that can easily pour into smaller cups (don’t waste this sweet treat!) and go back in the refrigerator to keep cool.  Your friends and party guests will love this new cocktail and those with an extra sweet tooth will even ask you for the recipe!
