Cocktail Monday – Icewine Julep
Adapted from a recipe developed by Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery in St. Catharines, Ontario, this recipe stays true to the original Julep structure, but with an interesting twist. While typical Mint Juleps require the addition of a simple sugar syrup to give them that little bit of sweetness. This Icewine Julep uses … you guessed it … icewine to add sweetness. The advantage to using icewine instead of sugar syrup is the fact that icewine also lends the cocktail some wonderful underlying flavours of fruit and spice, like apricots and cinnamon.
Icewine Julep
1 oz Riesling Icewine
4 mint leaves
3 oz Bourbon
In a tall glass, muddle icewine with mint leaves. Add Bourbon. Fill the glass with crushed ice. Stir.
