Bourgogne for All

By / Wine + Drinks / March 26th, 2014 / 2

I’ll be the first to admit it … and I’m sure a vast majority of you are in the same boat … Burgundy has a tendency to confuse me.

The Beaunes, the Nuits, the Cotes it’s enough to make one dizzy and they’re hard to keep track of.

On the other hand, nothing beats a well-made Burgundian Pinot, some say it’s the wine that changes you forever.  I’ve yet to find my heart stopping Pinot, but I’ll gladly keep looking … and my latest foray to find “the one” was at the Bouchard Pere & Fils tasting.

Bouchard Pere & Fils 2012 Pommard Rugiens ($120.00)

Comes off as creamy smooth with silky tannins and red cherry; this one’s sippable yet savory.

Bouchard Pere & Fils 2012 Beaune Greves Vigne de L’Enfant Jesus ($149.00)

This is the one that always comes the closest for me.  Super nose, great mouthfeel, cherry with hints of cranberry, black currant and nicely spiced.

Bouchard Pere & Fils 2012 Le Corton ($175.00)

The nose is closed but the palate is a total pleasure, it opens with plenty of red fruit and delicious berries and keeps right on giving to the long finish.
